So you’ve decided to dive into the wonderful world of spirituality and want to open up your abilities, maybe read tarot cards or try out a pendulum, but before you jump into these things you should start from the beginning. I ask you this: Do you know how to ground yourself? How do we ground ourselves and connect ourselves to this earth and physical body?
Starting from the basics, we have to center ourselves with grounding and meditation before we can fully open up to receive all the blessings the universe has to offer us. So, what exactly is grounding? In simple words, grounding is a process where you center and calm yourself. You connect with the earth and your physical body, and in doing so, you have better mental clarity and focus. Grounding is important because it balances us out and helps us feel emotionally and physically balanced. When we are grounded we feel connected to the world around us, and when we’re not grounded, we tend to feel disconnected and foggy, like our head is in the clouds. We may feel easily agitated, uneasy, or overwhelmed, and this is why we need to be grounded.
Now you’re asking: How exactly do I ground myself? Well, there’s a lot of different grounding techniques out there, but let’s start with a simple one: walk around outside barefoot and connect to the earth. Seriously, find a field or walk around your backyard barefoot and take a moment to just be here, present in the moment, on this earth. Take deep breaths in and out as you feel the earth underneath your feet. Let her energy flow through the soles of your feet and throughout your body. Another technique is to sit underneath a tree with your back pressed against the base of the tree. Let your eyes close, control your breathing, and begin to imagine roots growing from you into the earth as they do from the tree. Feel the connection you have to the tree and nature around you and really sit in the feeling. Remember you can only fly as high as your roots are deep.
The last two techniques I’m going to discuss for grounding are ones that can be done inside! The first is meditating with the purpose to ground. The easiest way to do this is to do a root chakra meditation. I’ll further elaborate on chakras later, but the root chakra is what helps us feel safe, grounded, and connected to the earth. It helps to meditate while imaging a grounding cord coming from the base of your spine, listening to 396 Hz beats, or meditating with a hematite stone are all some ways to help unblock the root chakra and help you ground. Lastly, you can ground yourself by sitting near a window, close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths. Then slowly open your eyes and tune into your sense by noticing five things you can see, four things you can hear, three things you can feel, two things you can smell, and one thing you can taste. This is one of my favorite ways to ground myself when I can’t go outside and before I do my tarot readings.
I hope you all enjoyed this piece on grounding and understand why we have to cover the basics before we get into the fun bits. Next, we’ll be discussing meditation and the 7 chakras, so keep a look out for those upcoming posts! Don’t hesitate to reach out with questions, comments, or concerns, all feedback is welcome with open arms. Sending you love and light always!
